Everspin Technologies Adds 4Mb Density Device to Serial Interface MRAM PortfolioMR25H40 SPI MRAM offers serial EEPROM and serial Flash compatible read/write timing with no write delays and unlimited read/write endurance.

Everspin Technologies announces the addition of a 4Mb product to its serial interface magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) family. The MR25H40 provides a fast, simple Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) solution that offers superior write speed, unlimited endurance, low standby and operating power, and more reliable data retention compared to available serial memory alternatives.

The MR25H40 is the latest addition to Everspin’s portfolio of high-performance non-volatile memory products designed to enhance systems using the SPI bus common on many microprocessors, microcontrollers and other integrated circuits. Everspin’s SPI MRAM family requires no write delay, runs at clock speeds as fast as 40 MHz, and provides automatic data protection on power loss and unlimited endurance with more than 20 years data retention.

Everspin has previously announced the upward-compatible 256Kb and 1Mb serial interface products, ideal for smart metering, industrial control, automotive and printer applications. Now, customers in these markets who need additional data storage can upgrade to the higher density 4Mb SPI MRAM or consider MRAM for applications that require more memory.

“Customers who may have been faced with limited options in the past can now use the 4Mb serial MRAM to directly replace EEPROM, Flash and FeRAM, and experience no write delays and unlimited read/write endurance,” said Phill LoPresti, president and CEO of Everspin Technologies. “The fast write time of the 4Mb serial MRAM also allows for new and exciting application architectures such as dynamically reconfigurable FPGAs.”

Serial MRAM implements a subset of commands common to today’s SPI EEPROM and Flash components, allowing MRAM to replace these components in the same socket and interoperate on a shared SPI bus. Serial MRAM offers superior write speed, unlimited endurance, low standby and operating power, and more reliable data retention compared to available serial memory alternatives. Unlike other serial memories, both reads and writes can occur randomly in MRAM with no delay between writes. The MR25H40 is the ideal memory solution for applications that must store and retrieve data and programs quickly using a small number of I/O pins.

About the MR25H40

The 4Mb serial MR25H40 MRAM product operates from 3.0 to 3.6 volts while offering low standby and operating currents as well as a sleep mode to further reduce system power consumption. The device is byte-organized internally, containing 4096 Kb of data. Industry-standard serial SPI command codes and timing enable easy connection to existing MCU and system designs. The MR25H40 is available in a small footprint 5mm x 6mm, 8-pin DFN package or an easily mounted 300 mil 8-pin DIP, which are both RoHS-compliant and are pin-out and footprint compatible with serial EEPROM, Flash and FeRAM products.

Availability

Samples of the MR25H40 MRAM are available in industrial (-40°C to 85°C) temperature grades. Please contact Everspin sales offices and distributors for orders and pricing.
