Facebook: Like goes mobile

A symbol of the social network, Facebook’s Like action has now appeared on Web apps and mobiles.

Facebook always has something to Like. A symbol of the social network, the Like action has now made its way to Web applications and mobiles, even though it isn’t really a Like button.

There is a noticeable difference, as unlike the Like button, the user must firstly authorize the publication of the application. Developers will also have more latitude for how they integrate this function into their applications in terms of its design. Two examples have been given with Instagram and Foursquare.

Once the Like action has been implemented, it connects the applications activity with Facebook. When a user likes the content of an application, this action is published in the news stream. When a user likes the content of one of their friends, a notification is sent to this person. For example, if a person likes a photo published on Instagram, this person will receive a notification.

Facebook has already provided developers with the possibility of publishing other actions like ratings from their mobile apps to the social network. The Like extension for mobile apps should attract investors in the sense that mobility is seen as the next growth sector for Facebook.
