After user profiles, it’s now Facebook Pages which will adopt the Timeline. This will come into effect on the 30th of March.
Facebook’s Page now displays a Timeline. Pages are for commercial links for a company, brands and even artists and their fans. This Timeline is currently only optional – even more so in the new format – although it will become automatic in March.
For this new format, we find the choice of a photo which can be changed as often as you want with this being displayed on the profile photo. Other photos, Like mentions and custom applications are available at the top of the page.
When first viewing a Page, a user sees their friend’s activities as well as their Facebook connections on a Page and how they interact with it. Facebook sees such information as interesting to all users.
The chronological order aspect is of course present. An administrator can anchor a post to the top of the page so that it is visible to all for up to a week. Other tools for managing a pages audience are also accessible from the administration panel which allows users to answer private messages.
More advertising displayed
In additional to the new Pages format, Facebook has enlarged their range of advertising products to attract more serious advertisers. Premium advertising messages (and therefore large companies) could also be displayed on the log-out page and sponsored stories in the news streams shown on mobile devices.
With Offers, companies will be able to share promotions and be put into direct contact from a Facebook page.
Facebook currently has 845 million active users and 425 million mobile users.
