The fans have voted through Virgin
Mobile Live’s Facebook page and five bands have come out on top as
the most popular in this year’s “Book the Band” contest. The winners
will command the stage at one of the hottest summer concerts, Virgin
Mobile FreeFest, on Sept. 10 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia,
Md. The Black Keys, Deadmau5, Cee Lo Green, Big Sean, TV on the Radio,
and a dozen other of the year’s most relevant, important and eclectic
artists will fill two main stages and the Dance Forest.
“We’re proud to empower our fans and deliver on what they really want,”
said Felicia Hill, manager of Viral Campaigns & Brand Initiatives,
Virgin Mobile USA. “Letting music enthusiasts pick and choose five bands
they want to rock out to delivers on our goal of giving back to those
who’ve supported our efforts like our alignment with youth homelessness
organizations.”
The contest was presented by Virgin Mobile USA and WHOOZNXT.COM,
the leading platform that rewards the online activity of artists with
real-world exposure. The five winners playing on the Whooznxt Stage at
FreeFest are:
Clear For Take Off – pop rock/alternative band from Ellicott City, Md.
Fourth
Quarter Comeback – pop-rock/power-pop band from Fairfax, Va.
Jennifer
Logue – indie/pop artist from New York
Kingsfoil – rock band from
York, Pa.
Run on the Sun – piano pop/rock band from Greenwich, Conn.
“Being from Maryland, we have grown up watching our idols play on the
stages at Merriweather and now, to have the chance to play the Virgin
Mobile FreeFest is huge for us,” said Joey Enste of local Maryland band
Clear For Takeoff. “Half of our band actually graduated on the stage at
Merriweather! The opportunity that Virgin Mobile USA and WHOOZNXT.com
are providing DIY bands like ours is phenomenal. We could not be more
excited to play, not only such a large event, but an event that has a
true philanthropic mission.”
Fans selected 10 finalists from thousands of entries for the contest.
Kingsfoil, Run on the Sun, Clear for Take Off, Fourth Quarter Comeback,
and Jennifer Logue won by receiving the most votes on www.facebook.com/virginmobilelive.
The other participating bands were Colorsound, New Sweden, Coyote
Theory, Alex Feather Akimov, and Ian Axel.
