Mozilla believes that the global market share of their Firefox Web browser has reached 30%.

Firefox_Nouveau_LogoThere are numerous companies publishing statistics about the market share controlled by each of the web browsers, although the results are nevertheless rather varied. Mozilla, who collects their own internal statistics so as to evaluate the number of users operating their browser (via Fx pings to the Mozilla servers), has decided to challenge data published by Net Applications, StatCounter, Quantcast and Gemius to try and get a clearer view about how their numbers are developed.

A report titled "The State of the Internet" will also be published on a quarterly basis. The first edition was put online on Wednesday for the first quarter of 2010. Mozilla believes that Firefox counts more then 350 million users around the world, with 30% of the global market share.

Across the different continents, their market share is the following:

  • Europe: 39.2% market share and 152.7 million users
  • South America: 31.4% and 31.7 million
  • Africa: 29.7% and 5.6 million
  • Oceania: 28.7% and 6.7 million
  • Asia: 26.6% and 68.7 million
  • North America: 26% and 100 million
