Google is under investigation by the FTC who suspects that the group has abused their dominant position.
According to the Wall Street Journal in their Thursday release, Google is being investigated by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission).
Quoting sources working on the case, the financial newspaper stated that the investigation of Google could be the largest ever undertaken in the United States.
The online search giant has apparently attracted the attention of the American competition watchdog after numerous complaints were filed against the web company.
They are also being investigated for abusing their dominant position. With their web share being around 66% it is believed that they give favour to their online services, both free and commercial, which penalises their competition.
While nothing is confirmed just yet, either by Google or the FTC, with Google silent on the matter and the FTS to maintain confidential inquiries, it seems that formal requests for information are about to be sent to the interested parties and other companies.
The European commission also opened a similar investigation at the end of 2010.
