FullArmor Corp., a leading edge cloud
services platform provider, today announced that it has received
patent # 8,078,713 from the United States Patent & Trademark Office for
applying Group
Policy Object (GPO) settings to virtualized
applications without affecting the underlying hardware’s policy
settings. The patented approach takes advantage of a capability provided
in the FullArmor GPanywhere® product. Although the invention works on
the Microsoft Windows operating system, other operating systems such as
Linux and UNIX can be adapted to support it as well.
“Microsoft
Group Policy technology provides a powerful platform for centrally
managing user permissions, security settings, and more, but it does not
allow policies to be applied to individual virtualized applications
without applying them on the underlying hardware device,” said Danny
Kim, CTO of FullArmor. “We have developed a way, using our GPAnywhere
product, to ‘inject’ Group Policy Objects into virtualized
applications so that they don’t affect the machine’s file system and
registry. This technology opens up a whole new world of possibilities
for managing virtualized applications not just on Windows but on Linux
and UNIX also.”
Highlights of FullArmor Patent
The patented invention works in the following way:
-
It receives a GPO from Active Directory
-
Combines the GPO and logic for using the GPO with a virtualized
application and creates a virtualized GPO
-
Injects the virtualized GPO into the virtualized application
-
The virtualized GPO is delivered to the target device in the same
manner that the virtual application is streamed
-
The virtualized GPO only applies policies to the virtual application’s
file and registry system
-
The virtualized GPO does not affect the target machine’s file and
registry system
