Gazzang
and DataStax,
the commercial leader in Apache
Cassandra™, today announced a partnership that will help customers
meet data security compliance regulations and guard against unauthorized
data access or malicious attack, while comprehensively managing their
Big Data. As part of the partnership, Gazzang
zNcrypt™ is now available as an integrated data security solution
for DataStax
Enterprise customers, allowing data to be secured when at rest.
"As we see increased enterprise adoption of NoSQL databases, issues such
as data security are going to become increasingly important," commented
Matt Aslett, research management, data management and analytics, 451
Research. "Partnerships such as the one struck by DataStax and Gazzang
will ensure users are able to combine the flexibility
of distributed unstructured data management with the encryption and
access control capabilities of zNcrypt."
“Gazzang gives DataStax customers peace of mind, knowing the sensitive
information they use to run massive-scale queries and analytics is
secure,” said Larry Warnock, president and CEO of Gazzang. “Because
zNcrypt is optimized for cloud and big data environments, there is no
tradeoff between security and performance. This means DataStax
Enterprise customers can have the best of both worlds: fast data and
maximum protection.”
Customers around the world are using Gazzang cloud security applications
to secure regulatory data for HIPAA, PCI-DSS, FERPA, FISMA, EU Data
Privacy and other compliance mandates. Gazzang is also working with
companies to encrypt and protect sensitive customer and business data,
as well as the cryptographic keys, from a malicious attack or breach.
Within DataStax Enterprise, Gazzang zNcrypt works as a last line of
defense for protecting data by transparently encrypting and securing
information as it gets written to disk, ensuring minimal performance lag
in the encryption or decryption process. The solution also includes
robust key management and process-based access controls that meet
compliance regulations and allow users to store their cryptographic keys
separate from the encrypted data.

DataStax Enterprise is the industry’s first complete big data solution
designed to manage real-time, analytic, and now enterprise search data,
all in the same database cluster. The platform delivers a comprehensive,
integrated data management solution that manages real-time data with
Cassandra, provides batch analytic capabilities with Apache Hadoop, and
enables enterprise search on that same data with Apache Solr.
“Gazzang offers a unique approach to the challenges of securing big
data,” said Billy Bosworth, CEO of DataStax. “This is extremely
important for customers concerned about compliance and data security.
Adding Gazzang to the DataStax partner ecosystem is further proof of our
commitment to provide best-of-breed big data solutions to our customers.”
Both companies will be on hand at this year’s Cassandra
Summit (Aug. 8, 2012 @Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, CA #Cassandra12) to
discuss the importance of security within the big data environment.
