Use a disposable email address with Firefox

November 02nd, 2009 - 05:54 am ET by D. T.

When you sign up to online competitions, a valid email address will be required so that a confirmation email can be sent to you. There is nothing wrong up to this point. The problem though is that in a lot of cases, the first email is followed by numerous advertising messages that come from the site or their commercial partners. An extension for Firefox titled Get Jetable Mail can be used, with this calling on the Jetable.org online service, allowing you to avoid these problems.
Start by installing the program by clicking on this link. After having installed the extension and rebooted Firefox, you will need to configure the extension. To do this, click on the "Tools" menu and on "Additional modules". Once you are in the module manager for extensions, select the Get Jetable Mail extension and click on the "Options" button.

In the window that appears, enter the email addresses that you regularly use, with it being possible to provide up to 5 addresses. Valid this by clicking on OK and close the extensions manager.

The extension will be configured, so now you just need to see how it works, although this isn’t very complicated. When you are not sure how your email address will be used, simply right click on the input field and select "Disposable Email".

In the box that appears you simply need to select the real address from the menu and indicate how long the address should be valid for, from 1 to 6 days, before validating. The extensions will then take care of the rest.

To make things easy, a temporary address will be created. You will receive the messages you want as they will be redirected to the real address. Once the time limit has expired, the disposable address will be destroyed and the messages will no longer be transferred.
