Based on the Android system and with the Google Chrome browser, the Google TV platform which brings the Internet to the television will be made available in the United States in the autumn.

google_logo_ProIn partnership with Sony, Intel, Logitech and even Adobe, the satellite TV provider DISH Network and Best Buy magazines, Google will launch their Google TV service by the end of the year in the United States, creating an alliance between the Internet and the television.

Using the Android operating system and Google Chrome web browser as a base, allowing for the use of integrated Flash 10.1, Google TV will be present on televisions, Blu-ray players and other multimedia devices like TV decoders by the end of the year. This system will be based around an Intel Atom CE4100 processor, with Ethernet and WiFi compatibility.

Google is betting on their TV service taking the user experience further than what has currently been seen, with the aim being to make the Web and television work together, easily changing from one world to the other. The user will also be able to surf the web while keeping one eye on their currently playing TV program.

While Google TV will bring with it options which we already have today via TV decoders like the TV guide, the service is also aiming to put Google View into the heart of the service with searching being done across the Web and available television channels (search for a program that you want to watch, search for a YouTube video...).

Google indicates that "if you know what you want to watch, but you aren’t sure where to find it, you simply have to enter the search subject and Google TV will help you find what you are looking for on the Web or on one of your numerous Television channels."

An interesting possibility is the fact that you can find subtitles for programs, and even perform translations into other languages.

But the future of Google TV is most likely in the hands of the developers. Thanks to the technologies employed by Google, Web developers will be able to contribute via applications which will be distributed through Android Market. After the launch of Google TV, an SDK and Web API’s will be made available.

Google is at this time only planning on launching this service in the United States.
