Hide from your contacts the fact that you have a webcam

November 27th, 2007 - 04:49 am ET by D. T.

If your contacts know that you have a webcam, then there are some of them that will request a video conference without your agreement by clicking on the icon which indicates you have one. If you don’t want it to be started, then there is a solution.

Firstly start the program by clicking on the icon located on the Windows desktop or by finding it in the Windows Start menu. After having made the main window large, click on the “Tools” menu and then on “Options…”

In the window that is displayed, you will need to go to the “Personal” location. At the bottom you will find a part labelled “My Webcam”. So that a webcam icon is no longer displayed, uncheck the box titled “Indicate to other users that I have a webcam”.

This will allow you to also hide the fact that you have a webcam from your new contacts, meaning that they won’t insist on wanting to see your face before you really know each other.
