With computers, we have the habit of watching standards change quickly before our eyes with new standards quickly making older hardware obsolete, along with the software that is almost out of date as soon as you open the carton. In the general public audio/visual field, standards fortunately don’t change quite as quick.

Alas, the times of stability seem to be changing with all manufacturers now aiming towards the “Home Entertainment – Media Centre – Digital hub” mantra. Media is mixing its way into more and more technologies (you only have to see the tentative – failure – of Vivendi Universal at the start of the 2000 decade or Steve Jobs / Pixar for proof of this) and the standards are changing with the times.
High Definition is the next step…
This tutorial will first of all explain in a simple way what this standard means for you. By comparing this to your computers screen, the explanations should be a little clearer. Then, we will try and explain what HD is, what it does and how this will change things for us.
Finally, we will conclude with some pieces of advice that can be used when purchasing any piece of HD material so that you are armed with enough information to know what you are looking for with this new technology…
Let’s look at the tutorial.
