Startup WeekendTM has announced its Global
Startup Battle winner, Awesome
Ship. The competition, designed to foster friendly competition and
community awareness among the global Startup Weekend community, kicked
off one week ago. Fifty winning teams from Startup Weekend events that
took place Nov. 11-14, 2011 and Nov. 18-20, 2011 were given the chance
to compete to become the ultimate Global Startup Battle winner. More
than 36,000 people participated via the Startup
Weekend Facebook fan page.
Awesome
Ship provides customers an easier, more convenient way to track
shipments. The application helps online retailers by providing customers
the option of receiving their shipping notifications directly via SMS,
Twitter, Facebook or other means.
More than 60 communities spread over five continents held Startup
Weekends over these two weekends as part of Global
Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). In total, more than 4,500 attendees,
mentors, speakers and judges worked on startup ideas during these
events, with thousands of ideas pitched and hundreds of teams formed.
