Hortonworks,
a leading contributor to Apache Hadoop projects, today announced the Hortonworks
Data Platform powered by Apache Hadoop. Designed to accelerate the
adoption of Apache Hadoop, the Hortonworks Data Platform provides an
open and stable foundation for enterprises and a growing ecosystem to
build and deploy big data solutions. The company also announced
comprehensive support and training offerings and partner enablement
programs to aid enterprises, ISVs and systems integrators in
implementing Apache Hadoop-based solutions.
The Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) is a massively scalable, open and
extensible platform powered by the most popular Apache Hadoop projects
including the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), MapReduce, Pig,
Hive, HBase and Zookeeper. Also included are HCatalog, a metadata
management service for simplifying data sharing between Hadoop and other
enterprise information systems; Ambari, an open source installation and
management system; and open HTTP/REST APIs that make it easier for ISVs
to integrate and extend Apache Hadoop.
“As a leader in processing the massive amounts of data that flow through
enterprises, Informatica is providing a data integration platform
tightly integrated with Apache Hadoop that turns big data into big
opportunity for businesses,” said James Markarian, executive vice
president and chief technology officer, Informatica. “Through our
relationship with Hortonworks, Informatica can deliver a solution built
upon the Hortonworks Data Platform that integrates data sources and
shares information widely across the enterprise. This solution helps
organizations make sense of a wide variety of data which drives more
informed decisions and helps companies grow their businesses.”
“The amount of data across the globe is doubling every two years and
organizations in all industries are struggling to manage and capitalize
on this wealth of information,” said Benjamin Woo, program vice
president, storage systems and lead analyst for Big Data, IDC. “Apache
Hadoop has established itself as a leading solution for unlocking the
enormous potential of this vast amount of information, known as big
data. It is critical for companies like Hortonworks to continue to
develop and contribute core Apache Hadoop code back to the open source
community, helping make the technology more palatable for widespread
deployment across enterprise environments.”
Hortonworks also announced expert
support, training and enablement services for the entire Hadoop
ecosystem. Hortonworks support subscriptions assist organizations during
the entire lifecycle of Hadoop solutions, including unprecedented Hadoop
design, development and proof-of-concept support. Hortonworks training
offerings are designed to overcome Hadoop knowledge gaps for developers,
architects and administrators. Partner enablement services assist ISVs
and systems integrators in delivering integrated and optimized Hadoop
solutions and services. All Hortonworks services are backed by the
development team that has contributed the majority of code to the core
Apache Hadoop projects and supported the world’s largest Hadoop
deployment for the past several years.
“Hortonworks is dedicated to advancing Apache Hadoop so that it becomes
the de facto platform for the next generation of data processing
solutions,” said Eric Baldeschwieler, CEO of Hortonworks. “The
Hortonworks Data Platform is an important step in achieving this goal.
By providing an open, stable and highly extensible platform that makes
it easier to integrate Apache Hadoop with existing data architectures,
Hortonworks is helping organizations maximize the value from the data
flowing throughout their enterprise.”
