During the press conference to unveil their first mobile products operating WebOS, HP made it known that the mobile platform also had a place in larger devices… like computers and netbooks.
HP’s press conference held on the 9th of February 2011 in San Francisco was used by the group to announce the release of their first three mobile products: two Smartphone’s (HP Veer and HP Pré 3) and a tablet (HP TouchPad) all running WebOS.
But the event was also used as an occasion to remind everyone present of their WebOS policy following their acquisition of Palm (with the company’s name now appearing nowhere), stating that the slogan "Everybody On" had the aim of creating a completely new environment around WebOS which allows various HP devices to communicate – ranging from telephones to computers.
WebOS on a wider range of electronic products
And while HP representatives have decided to keep WebOS in the mobile sphere for a few more months, things have started to change as previously suggested. During the press conference, Todd Bradley – executive vice-president at HP indicated that WebOS would soon be present in printers… as well as netbooks and even computers.
The days announcements were only related to mobile products and no details were provided about how computers would run WebOS, although this information should be made public later in the year. The "Touch-to-Share" function, unveiled on the HP TouchPad tablet, has already provided an initial idea about the interaction possibilities made available in this new context.
