The first updates to Android 4.0 for HTC smartphones will be made available in late March. The HTC Sensation and its variants will be the first serves.
When Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was announced in late 2011, manufacturer HTC came out cautiously when talking about the update strategy for their mobile devices. Wanting to offer a user experience that is different from their competition while being similar on all their devices with the HTC Sense layer, they have needed to take some time to verify which smartphones are able to effectively use the Android 4.0 / HTC Sense pairing.
A little later, they finally published a list of eligible smartphones from their product range, with it being hardly surprising that the update is almost exclusively available to their latest handsets, starting in early 2012. The manufacturer has now updated their Facebook page with an update calendar.
Initially the HTC Sensation and its variants The first devices being updated will be the different HTC Sensation models (HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Sensation XE). These devices will benefit from an update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich from late March. The update of the HTC Sensation XL will arrive slightly later than the initially communicated date.
For the other models (HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD), HTC is happy to confirm that they will receive an update to Android ICS, but "later in the year", without any more details.
Owners of these handsets will therefore have to be patient, with HTC also presenting updated smartphones that come shipped with Android 4.0 at the MWC 2012 show in Barcelona at the end of February, like the HTC Edge and HTC Ville.
