It's old "24 $ (incl. no updates & support)" again. (And the trial
version only runs for 7 days.)

Also, in the case of _media_ files, what one wants is something that
detects _similar_ images (and, probably, mp3s etc. - probably even
cross-format).

Many years ago I came across a - not free - utility that did exactly
that: I think it may have been called "duplicate image finder". You
could set the percentage similarity you wanted, and it would pop up
pairs of similar images for you to look at and decide which one to
delete: very useful if you have a collection of images you've collected
from different sources which may well contain the same image, but with
minor differences (different aspect ratios if they were screen grabs
from movies, different amounts of noise in the black parts ditto,
different logos having been applied ... or stored at different qualities
and sizes). Bit clunky to use, but - at least where images are concerned
- far more useful than just a bare identical-file finder (of which,
incidentally, there are oodles - "finddup" [free] is as good as any, and
the same code is also used in EasyCleaner [also free]). (Oh, and both of
those definitely work on '9x - which I'm not sure about for the spam.)

No, I haven't changed my mind - I'm perfectly happy with the one I have, thank
you.
