iPhone 4: overload of pre-ordered handsets with AT&T

Pre-orders of the iPhone 4 have only just opened and already AT&T are encountering saturation problems in the United States, creating user frustration which is being expressed on Twitter and specialised forums.
Apple opened pre-orders on the 15th of June for their new iPhone 4 Smartphone. More powerful and with a better display that handles multitasking, the device is difficult for users to get their hands on due to problems accessing the reservation system.
In the United States, the Apple and AT&T web sites have seen such activity that they were paralysed by pre-order requests which also affected the Apple Store, creating a certain amount of frustration with future users who have expressed their frustration on Twitter, social networks and specialised forums.
Some users also claim that they had access to other user’s information when attempting to complete their online reservation. A spokesman for the carrier confirmed that numerous users had alerted them of the fact, but that none of the information seen was of a sensitive nature, although it wasn’t explained why this was the case. He did state that critical information like credit card numbers and social security numbers were protected and not at risk.
Annoying information leaks The carrier is taking this information seriously though, especially considering that they confronted similar data leaks a few days ago concerning iPad 3G tablet owners where email addresses were uncovered. This previous leak is now under investigation by American authorities.
AT&T has indicated that the opening of pre-orders for the iPhone 4 was "one of the busiest days in their history". Some users who were unable to pre-order their handsets online tried their luck at AT&T shops, although they didn’t necessarily have greater success.
For some analysts expressing their point of view to Reuters, this situation can be explained by the fact that the public has understood the importance of pre-ordering the handset rather than lining up for hours when it becomes available in shops on the 24th of June.
