Jailbreak iOS 4 and iPad 2: Jailbreakme 3.0 finally available

July 06th, 2011 - 10:30 am ET by C. D.

After a slight problem on the week end, the simplified Jailbreakme system by Comex is now available and compatible with all iOS 4 mobile devices, including the iPad 2, which had held out until now.

JailbreakmeThe new version of the Jailbreakme program to unlock iOS devices is now available so that you can install applications with ease which are not available on the App Store, while also opening up the market to the iPad 2 which previously couldn’t be jailbroken via other methods.

An initial preliminary version was available for a short time last weekend but without the agreement of its author, Comex, from the Dev Team,  raising questions about stability and its safety.

The release of a stable version aimed at all users therefore took a little longer to develop than planned, but is now available to all by going to http://jailbreakme.com with the iOS device’s web browser.

A first for the iPad 2

Jailbreakme 3.0 is therefore the first jailbreak solution which works with the iPad2 tablet while also working with all other mobile Apple devices running iOS 4. Comex warns though that while the faults exploited are present in the beta version of iOS 5, they will surely be removed from the final version of the platform, which means that a new version of Jailbreakme will need to be developed again for the next release.

Users of the iPad 2 with 3G connectivity (GSM and CDMA) should be warned though that it may not be possible to return to an older version of the iOS after jailbreaking above iOS 4.3.3. Jailbreakme 3.0 can also be used on iPad 1 devices (from iOS 4.3), iPad 2 (iOS 4.3.3), iPhone 3GS (from 4.3), iPhone 4 (from iOS 4.3) GSM and CDMA (from iOS 4.2.6 to 4.2.8 for CDMA) and the iPod Touch 3G and 4G (from iOS 4.3).
