Following a study conducted by the iSuppli cabinet, sales of LCD screens increased in 2009, a trend which should continue to progress over coming years.
The iSuppli study group has published a new study on LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitor sales. According to them, 176.5 million LCD screens were sold around the world in 2009, representing an increase of 3.7% when compared to the 170.1 million recorded sales seen during the previous year.
Despite the slowing economic context, such growth has come from the replacement of older CRT and previous generation LCD models with new generation monitors. These provide a more attractive design, with the latest equipment coming in the more fashionable 16/9 format. This is of course not forgetting that the prices of such devices are now lower than ever before.
The arrival of models compatible with the 3D technology should also see this trend continuing according to iSuppli analysts who estimate sales growth on average of 4.5% per year, with volumes to reach 211.5 million in 2013.
