M*Modal
(MModal Inc. – NASDAQ/GS: MODL), a leading provider of clinical
documentation services and Speech Understanding™ technologies, today
announced that Duke
University Health System (DUHS) has selected the Company’s
cloud-based Speech Understanding™ technology to support the rollout of
its Epic electronic health record (EHR). The technology will be made
available to more than 1,000 inpatient and ambulatory care physicians
upon the EHR’s implementation.
Once fully deployed, M*Modal’s technology will enable physicians
throughout the enterprise to efficiently capture the patient’s complete
clinical story and extract meaningful, actionable information to
populate the Epic EHR. As a result, providers across the continuum of
care will have access to comprehensive and highly contextual
intelligence that supports effective clinical decision making and
further strengthens the organization’s research environment.
“Our primary commitment to providing optimal care to patients throughout
Duke University Health System includes the need to support our providers
with superior clinical documentation tools,” said Art Glasgow, Chief
Information Officer, Duke University Health System. “We’re confident
that this technology will effectively support our system-wide
implementation of an electronic health record by providing more options
for providers to efficiently capture critically important information
and leverage this data for improved care decisions.”
Built on its cloud-based enterprise documentation platform, M*Modal’s
Speech Understanding technology alleviates difficulties associated with
standard point-and-click templates by allowing providers to use their
voice, in addition to keyboard and mouse, to document care and navigate
clinical applications. The technology automatically converts the
narrative into structured and encoded information, augmenting discretely
captured data with meaningful information that drives improvements in
care. Leading Academic Health System Selects M*Modal Speech
Understanding Platform
M*Modal’s technology also allows users to search and share massive
amounts of encoded narrative and structured information, promoting
clinical discovery and supporting ongoing research initiatives
throughout the enterprise.
“We are excited to partner with Duke and its world-renowned clinical
staff,” said Vern Davenport, Chairman and CEO of M*Modal. “As we
continue our work with luminary institutions, the collaboration with
Duke presents a unique opportunity to further innovate the capture and
use of all clinical documentation originating from speech, driving
meaningful improvements in care and physician productivity.”
