Kynetx today announced a new version of its AppBuilder with Kynetx
browser extensions that enable developers to create and distribute
“browser apps,” a new type of application that enhances existing Web
experiences. Kynetx browser apps are cloud-based, event-driven
applications for the ‘Live Web’ that seamlessly run in Google Chrome,
Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. Kynetx—like Greasemonkey for the
cloud—enables the integration of services and functionality into any
existing website with a single codebase that serves all four of these
major browsers.
The Live Web is a new way of experiencing the web that dynamically
correlates event, data streams and context—and subsequently, the
information—that users care about most. In the Live Web, developers can
create browser apps that access information and services from dozens or
even hundreds of data streams across the Web in real time. Implementing
the Live Web includes a mix of using new and emerging platforms like
Kynetx with existing technologies and data through APIs, Web browsers
and mobile applications.
“Browser apps powered by Kynetx represent an entirely new way to
experience the Web, driven by the correlation of events, data, context
and unified identity,” said Phil Windley, founder and CTO, Kynetx. “This
next generation of application, running on what is being called the Live
Web, will enhance the end user experience by loosely coupling
multiple systems together and using context to drive access to data and
functionality.”
Popular for the ability to improve user experiences on any existing
site, Greasemonkey scripts make on-the-fly changes to HTML web page
content. With Greasemonkey, however, browser support is limited and the
resulting scripts reside on end-users computers, so users have to manage
the scripts themselves or developers need to write cumbersome update
code. With the new cloud-based browser apps from Kynetx, developers can
quickly create applications that make the same on-the-fly changes to
HTML for all major browsers without requiring end users to manage
scripts or write or update complex code. Additionally, Kynetx enables
developers to quickly integrate services from across the Web, including
OAuth-driven services like Twitter and Facebook. Developers can also
directly import existing Greasemonkey scripts to enable cross-browser
compatibility and take advantage of the features Kynetx provides.
In summary, the Kynetx platform with its AppBuiler and browser
extensions provide developers:
-
The ability to quickly deploy browser applications to end users
without requiring them to install and manage scripts and instantly
update applications for all users.
-
A browser-based integrated development environment (IDE)
-
Collaboration with other developers
-
Platform-level integration with popular services such as Facebook,
Twitter, Amazon and Twilio and generalized integration capabilities
with REST-based web services.
-
The ability to import existing Greasemonkey scripts in that will
immediately work
Examples of the browser apps that can be created with Kynetx include
TweetPlus, an extension that lets users Tweet web pages directly from
the page they are on at any given moment.
Cost & Availability
Kynetx for Chrome, Kynetx for Firefox and Kynetx for
Safari are available today. While the Kynetx platform is free to
sign up and build applications, Kynetx will charge a small utility fee
for application usage beginning later this year.
