Manufacturer LSI has presented a controller card which significantly improves data transfer speeds through the SAS/SATA interface.
LSI, a specialist in storage and network solutions, recently unveiled their LSISAS3008 expansion card.
Using the PCI-Express 3.0 standard with the 8x format, this is a controller card which allows up to 44 hard drives/SSD’s to be connected via SAS/SATA with a maximal theoretical speed of around 12 Gbit/s.

To back up these claims, the manufacturer has conducted a small demonstration with 32 Seagate Savvio 15.3K hard drives, with the performance being measures by the IOMeter benchmarking tool. Data peaks of 3 106.84 MB/s and 1.013 million IOPS were recorded, with this being 65 and 58% better than with a standard 6 Gbit/s SATA controller. These are rather impressive results!
