Universal 3D glasses to soon be a reality

The universal 3D glasses project which is being supported by numerous large industrial groups, increasing its chances of becoming a reality.

Full HD 3D GlassesAt the beginning of August, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and X6D Limited announced that they would be conjointly developing the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative which aims to develop universal 3D glasses so that users don’t have to purchase a new set of glasses each time they change hardware.

Samsung 3D lunettes 1Besides the obvious savings that could be made by the consumer who could use a single pair of glasses rather than being tied to a specific brand of 3D glasses, the move is also to help reduce costs so that each brand doesn’t have to develop their own technologies supporting 3D, especially since the technology hasn’t quite had the success with the general public as anticipated.

The idea of universal 3D glasses is appealing to other manufacturers, as Philips, Sharp, TCL and Toshiba, major players in the field have also decided to join the project, making it more likely that the project will become a reality.

The specifications of the universal 3D glasses should be unveiled in September, with general implementation into products to commence in 2012.
