Mac OS X: Destroying your own files while having fun

Destroying the files in your home folder while having fun is what is offered by a Trojan Horse which targets Mac OS X users. A strange game in which the user plays a staring role.

space-invadersUpdated by the security experts at Symantec, the Loosemaque threat is rather different. Firstly because it targets Mac OS X users, which isn’t yet the standard - even if the popularity of the Apple operating system is increasing, which is partly the reason behind the creation of this Trojan. The disguise that the Trojan horse comes in is even more surprising.
Loosemaque is presented in the form of an old school video game, with a very similar look to Space Invaders. While you are having fun destroying aliens though, the user is at the same time destroying the files in their personal folder - an activity which is a lot less desirable. When the game is launched, a message is clearly displayed stating that an alien killed equals a file deleted. The user isn’t tricked, with it being interesting that they are even warned about the dangerous action that they are about to take.

Loosemaque is obviously not a Trojan horse like others, as it comes with a strange artistic aspect. On the web site which delivers the game, the user is warned that this is "a game where your choices have consequences, and through this it will be determined whether you succeed or fail". Words that are certainly worthy of a philosophy question.

According to Symantec, the threat isn’t severe, but the editor is afraid that a change to the Trojan’s code could be made, turning the program into more worrying malware. "Nothing prevents new threats from being developed, targeting Mac’s with more criminal intents", indicates Symantec who also underlined the potential danger of some games available on the Net. Witnessing this program, it is obvious that not just PC’s are affected.

Below is a video which shows the threat that is Loosemaque and what it looks like. You should be careful, as the game’s music is very addictive, which still shouldn’t be a reason for you to try the game though.
