The Windows XP/2000 operating systems protect their system files by regularly performing a copy of everything contained in the C:\Windows\System32\Dllcache\ folder. This seems reassuring when you think about it, but to be able to perform this service the system has to use some of your resources. This protection can be configured in the Windows registry.
Start the Windows registry editor by pressing “Start”, “Run”, type “regedit” into the field and press the OK button.
Once you are in the Windows registry, go to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\
Select the “Winlogon” folder on the left hand side and then right click in the empty space in the right hand window. A drop down menu will appear and you will have to select “New” and “DWORD Value”.
A new entry will be created. You will now need to change its name and value. To change the name you can right click on it and select “Rename” from the drop down menu. To change the value you will need to select “Edit” from this same drop down menu. You will need to name this new key “SFCDisable” and provide it with a value of 0 if you want to use the standard protection, 1 if you want protection but with the computer asking you each time the system starts and a 2 if you want this to be deactivated.
The new DWORD key appears
Changing the DWORD to 1
If you don’t want to change your registry yourself for fear of making a mistake then you can download the following registry keys which will perform the change for you.
Leave the default protection (active)

Leave the protection activated, but have t he system ask you with each reboot

Disable the protection
