The Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (Manex) is pleased that one
of Silicon Valley’s leaders is producing their latest product
domestically. The Nexus Q, a new wireless home media player introduced
by Google earlier this week, is entirely designed and manufactured in
Silicon Valley. Recently, factors in overseas operations such as rising
labor, energy and transportation costs, risks of intellectual property
theft, and less quality control have made manufacturing in the U.S. more
attractive.
Although Google is not disclosing the location of their manufacturing
operations, and will not say how many people are employed, it is
definitely a move that other electronics companies will be closely
observing. Google’s success in domestic manufacturing may trigger other
manufacturers to follow a similar strategy, which would be a boost to
the economic growth of the region.
Manex has a long history of assisting manufacturers, distributors and
supply chains throughout Northern California and sees Google’s move as a
step towards a more vital manufacturing sector. The Manex team offers
practical solutions to increase growth, productivity, quality and
profitability, using a “hands-on” approach to solve business challenges.
Manex is the Northern California affiliate of the NIST Manufacturing
Extension Partnership (MEP), and draws on a national network of
partners. Through the assistance of NIST, Manex is able to offer cost
effective consulting, innovation, and strategy, and in some cases with
small manufacturers, is able to provide complimentary onsite
assessments. This is all accomplished through the NIST program to bring
manufacturing back to the United States and innovate our way to global
success.
Manex CEO, Gene Russell says, ”Manex plays a crucial role in the
Northern California economy creating and maintaining jobs, generating
tax revenue to reduce deficits and increasing global competitiveness.
Manex accomplishes these goals by engaging with companies to design and
implement innovation programs to accelerate profitable top-line growth
in today’s competitive global environment.”
