Health
Language, Inc. (HLI), the global leader in healthcare terminology
management, today announced that MDeverywhere,
a provider of physician revenue cycle management services, has selected
its Language Engine (LE) and provider friendly terminology (PFT).
MDeverywhere will integrate the HLI software with its Web-based charge
capture software to make it easier for clinicians to record diagnoses
and problems, while supporting standardized terminologies such as SNOMED
CT and ICD-10.
The addition of HLI software will help support providers in achieving
Meaningful Use Stage 1 requirements for up-to-date problem lists and
proposed Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements for SNOMED problem lists,
and it will lay the foundation for ICD-10 support.
“For physicians, searching against ICD-9 or SNOMED CT is a difficult
process, as these two terminologies do not match up with the colloquial
terms clinicians use for diagnoses,” said Ann Bilyew, CEO of
MDeverywhere. “With HLI’s provider friendly terminology and the
sophisticated searching algorithms in its Language Engine, we are able
to bridge these gaps now and in the future as our clients move toward
both Meaningful Use Stage 2 and ICD-10.”
MDeverywhere decided to partner with HLI because of its terminology
management expertise and breadth of provider friendly content. By
leveraging LE in combination with HLI’s extensive library of synonyms,
colloquialisms and other terms used regularly by providers,
MDeverywhere’s clinician users will be able to:
-
Search for diagnosis or problem list codes using everyday terms that
are familiar to providers;
-
Retrieve search results according to level of relevancy in a ranking
list ordered by the LE’s algorithms;
-
Automatically receive terminology standards updates through web
services;
-
Store problem list data using SNOMED CT codes in order to prepare for
potential Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements; and
-
Navigate to correct ICD-10 codes by providing responses to specific
diagnoses questions prompted by decision trees in the LE.
“Provider friendly terminology is essential for alleviating the burden
of attaining new coding knowledge, so that clinicians can focus more
closely on patient care,” said George Schwend, CEO and president of HLI.
“By capturing ICD and SNOMED codes in one quick search, they will be
able to both streamline billing processes and improve clinical
documentation.”
