QuickOffice, the mobile software suite which allows you to view and edit MS Office documents, is now under Google’s control.
QuickOffice is an editor present in the mobile field for a number of years. They specialise in providing a software suite to view, share and edit office documents (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and PDF files on various mobile platforms.
An alternative to Microsoft’s mobile tools, or a replacement when on a mobile platform, QuickOffice was available on most mobile OS’ and was often pre-installed on smartphones and tablets released by the world’s largest handset manufacturers.
This editor has now been acquired by Google for an unknown amount, with it to reinforce the search giant’s mobile services. Alan Masarek, co-founder and CEO of QuickOffice, congratulates his company on the progress they have made, gaining good visibility as a mobile productivity tool, with a "new chapter now being opened with Google".
We will have to now see whether Google will integrate this with Google Docs which already allows you to view and edit Office documents from mobile devices – Android and other OS’. The QuickOffice suite is present on Android, iOS and Symbian.
