Motorola Droid X: Android Smartphone with 4.3” screen and HDMI connectivity

While the iPhone 4 has just hit shelves, Motorola has now unveiled their new leading model: the Motorola Droid X, an Android 2.2 Froyo Smartphone with a 4.3” display, 8 mega pixel camera and HDMI connector.

The iPhone 4 is capable of putting on a good show, with users heads all turning at its commercial launch in the United States and a dozen other countries around the world. Motorola has now tried to piggy back on the moment by releasing the Motorola Droid X, a top of the line Smartphone which may get tongues wagging.

It offers particularly attractive characteristics, and should manage to get out from behind Apple’s shadow. While it will initially be launched with Android 2.1, it will be ready for an update to Android 2.2 Froyo by the end of the summer, making it compatible with the Flash 10.1 technology.

We can also note that the device comes with a 1 GHz TI OMAP3630 processor burned at 45 nm, replacing the OMAP3430 processor used in the Motorola Droid. This handset benefits from a large 4.3" display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, coming with an 8 mega pixel camera with double LED Flash and 720p video recording capabilities.

Playing video will be possible on an external screen through the HDMI connector or by the DLNA protocol. With dimensions of 127.5 x 65.5 x 9.9 mm, and weighing 155 g, the Motorola Droid X comes with 8GB of internal memory and a microSDHC card port allowing you to add up to an additional 32GB of space.


Ready for Android 2.2 Froyo
It is WiFi and Bluetooth compatible and comes with an A-GPS module. As an Android handset, the Motorola Droid X benefits from all Google mobile services while having access to 65 000 applications available on the Android Market. We will also find pre-installed applications like NFL Mobile, Skype Mobile, V Cast Video and EA Need for Speed Shift.

Supported by Verizon Wireless, it is CDMA EV DO compatible (and therefore not compatible with European GSM networks). Its 1540 mAh battery provides up to 8 hours of battery life when in communication and up to 220 hours in standby.

The Motorola Droid X will be available from the 15th of July 2010 for 199 dollars, with a two year contract.
