The problem is around the chargers shell which has a tendency of splitting, leaving the internal workings of the charger exposed and therefore presenting a danger to the user when the device is plugged in.

A free exchange program
This concerns the AC-3E and AC-3U models manufactured by BYD between the 15th of June and 9th of August 2009, as well as the AC-4U model produced between the 13th of April and 25th of October 2009. These chargers were available with the purchase of a new mobile phone as well as a separately sold accessory.

Nokia has put into place a free exchange program for the chargers, along with an explanation site allowing users the possibility of verifying whether their devices are a part of the damaged lots. The manufacturer underlines that this is a precautionary measure with no incident having been signalled.

The AFP indicates that there are 14 million chargers circulating in the world which are impacted.
