nVIDIA has launched their new generation of graphics solutions, this time based on the 28 nanometre Kepler micro-architecture.

The GeForce GTX 680 video card
Starting with video cards for desktop computers, the GeForce GTX 680 was presented.

The top of the line solution aimed at gamers has been announced with a GPU powered by 1 536 treatment cores with a frequency ranging between 1 006 and 1 058 MHz, along with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory interfaced in 256-bits, opening it up to 6 008 MHz.

This replaces the GeForce GTX 580, with it being a lot more powerful, while being less resource intensive. With The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video game for example, it has 43% better performance with 28% less energy use. Below you can see results provided by nVIDIA in graphic format:

You will have to pay 649 dollars for the base version which will be offered by Asus, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, Point of View, PNY and Zotac.

The GeForce 600M video solutions
In terms of video cards for laptop computers, we see that there are seven references available: GeForce 610M, GeForce GT 620M, GeForce GT 630M, GeForce GT 635M, GeForce GT 640M LE, GeForce GT 640M and GeForce GT 650M. Their technical characteristics are detailed in the table below:

Once again, there is an improvement in performance. By comparing how they go with the video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution with a GeForce GT 520 and a GeForce GT 620, nVidia has stated that they are capable of now displaying 69 pictures per second compared to the previous 39. This means that the refresh rate has almost doubled compared to the old version.

By pointing out the performance they had two years ago, they demonstrate the progress that they have made in terms of performance and energy consumption. Laptop computers with these cards will offer more powerful video solutions, while being thinner and providing better battery life.

Acer, Asus, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, LG, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba will be some of the manufacturers to integrate the new Nvidia 600M video solutions into their machines.
