Performing actions on either a file or folder is done much easier in Windows Explorer mode which resembles the classic Windows 9x file browser. Usually when we click on My Computer, our view is nothing like this, a little annoying as this is the default display view that Microsoft has chosen for us.

When this default view opens, if you wish to see the directories listed as in windows Explorer then you will systematically need to click on the [Folders] button, which can become annoying after a while. Fortunately there is a simpler method of changing this so that it opens as we like.
Here’s how it can be done:
Click “Start”, “Run” and type “control folders”. Click “OK” and you will see the Folder Options window open in front of you.
1 – Click on the [File Types] tab
2 – Look through the list and find the word “Folder”, and select this.
3 – Click on the [Advanced] button.
In the Modify file type window, select “explore”, click on the [Set Default] button and press [OK] to complete the change.
Now whenever you open My Computer it will display directly in Windows Explorer mode, with it also being applied directly on the folder.
Note:
There are other ways of arriving at the same result, for example, you can right click on My computer and select “Explore” from the drop down menu, use the [Windows] + [E] key combination or even hold down [Shift] while double clicking My Computer. (Thanks to “cerics” for this information).
