Protect your OpenCalc documents from changes

February 28th, 2008 - 06:10 am ET by D. T.

Do you use a shared computer at home or work where some documents created with the OpenCalc that are more important then others? Would you like to protect these from being changed? In this case you should opt for changes to be made only after providing the password.

Firstly launch the OpenCalc software and open the document you want to protect. Go to the “Tools” menu and chose “Protection”. Two options will be made available to you: “Sheet…” or “Document…”. This will depend on whether you want to block changes to a sheet or to the whole document.

Once you have made your choice, a dialogue box will appear asking you to provide a password which then has to be confirmed.

After having press OK as the screen capture below shows, no more changes will be possible. To reactivate the write function, you will need to use the same menu, uncheck the protection box and enter the password.
