Protect your OpenOffice.org documents against lock ups

April 07th, 2008 - 05:15 am ET by D. T.

You may know that the OpenOffice.org suite integrates a restoration module that allows you, in the event of lock ups, to recover your document from the last save. This is why the application performs an automatic backup every 15 minutes. If, for more security, you want to increase the frequency of this backup, here is how it can be done.

From the word processor for example, go to the “Tools” menu and select “options” at the bottom.

From here, go to the “Load/save” part and select “General”. In the right hand side of the window, go to the section called “Save” then the setting “Save automatic recovery options” and edit the fixed time that is set to 15 minutes by default. This can be set to what ever time you want, 1, 5 or 10 minutes. Press on the OK button.
