Partitioning Windows XP drive for Ubuntu

December 30th, 2011 - 11:24 am ET by Dave Boland | Report spam
I just got assigned a new(er) computer, which has a Windows XP partition,
and then an unallocated space of 6.84 GB (according to gParted). The
unallocated space does not show up in the Windows XP disk tool, so could
it be a hidden recovery partition?

I need to know what to do with this space, because the computer did not
come with a recovery CD, thus I can't afford to hose Windows.
Suggestions?

The computer is a V2 Premier, which doesn't seem to be available any
longer.

Thanks,
Dave

There is probably a hot key that will invoke the recovery routine at boot
time, if properly configured. Based on a quick Google search, try holding
down F4 at the BIOS logo to see if it is intact.
