Mio A201 Pocket PC Test

The Mio A201 opened a fast period of growth in Europe. The company hasn’t stopped making advancements and it one of the main autonomous GPS system makers. Released in 2006, the Mio A201 represents a mix between PDA and GPS navigation device. At this time, the navigation software was MioMap v2, which was tested here. The software has since evolved to version 3.

The Mio A201 is a Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 5.0 without the telephony functions, but which does have an integrated GPS receiver (SiRF Star III), with an external mobile antenna.

It brings together in a single device PDA and PND options and sits in the non communicating GPS PDA range, while waiting for the release of the Mio A701, a communicating PDA GPS system, and other devices like the Mio P350 and P550.
Sold since December last year, it is taking advantage of the growth being seen in this sector which first came about in 2005, when GPS functions were first included in mobile devices.
