Pin a folder to the Windows 7 Start Menu

June 16th, 2010 - 10:39 am ET by D. T.

If you want to be able to easily pin your most often used folders to the Windows 7 Start menu, then here is how it can be done.

Firstly open the registry editor by entering "regedit” into the real time search field in the Start menu. Once you are in the registry, go to the following location: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\.

Select the "ContextMenuHandlers" key and right click in the open space to the right. In the context menu which appears, click on "New" and "key".

Next, select the new key and press [F2] on the keyboard to enter the following name "{a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}".

Everything is now done. When you hold down the [Shift] key, the option of pinning your folders to the Start menu will appear when you right click on a folder.
