As I looked for another quote from Peter, I finally found the quote of
Peter's where he is specific about what he disagrees with me in terms of
JPGs and EXIF data. Remember, my claim is simple: JPGs can have EXIF data -
though they need not. Here is Peter's claim:
Peter Köhlmann:
OSX had dowloaded the pictures from the net as
"EXIF date".
Many things wrong with this... one, you cannot download a picture *as* an
"EXIF date"... but let us just give Peter the benefit of the doubt and maybe
say he was thinking that OS X added EXIF data (specifically the date) to an
image as it is downloaded.
This is simply wrong. No version of OS X has ever done this. To do this
would be wrong... and Peter simply has no backing for his claim. None. He
flat out was wrong.
I keep telling you, DFS, that most of the herd presents themselves as
amazingly technically incompetent... while they might have areas of
competence, they say things such as Peter's above quote which is not just
wrong but absurdly so.
And it shows that Peter had no idea what EXIF data was... and *none* of the
herd came in to correct him, even though others were engaged in the
conversation. They presented themselves as people who were completely
ignorant of the concept of EXIF data.
To be fair, you did show where I confused another form of meta-data with
EXIF data in a video I produced. Kudos to you - you found a place where I
made a technical error. Unlike the herd - and unlike you - I admitted to it
freely and quickly. I have confidence in my knowledge and my expertise...
and thus have no problem admitting when I goof up (the video with the
mistake is still loaded, I did not even pull it down). But I think you have
to admit my mistake was a lot less extreme than Peter's... and the fact none
of the herd showed any better understanding was just sad. They present
themselves as technical incompetents.
