Preview of League of Legends

Having passed almost unnoticed at the latest video game events like the E3 and the Games Convention, the release from Riot Games didn’t have enough going for it to rival Assassin’s Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2 : Among Thieves which will certainly all be well picked up. Recently, we decided to test the beta version of League of Legends anyway, and here are our impressions.

Preview of League of Legends

  1. 1 - A mix of genres
  2. 2 - More complex than it appears
  3. 3 - Not bad overall

It is difficult to quickly select your character as there are so many available to you. These vary on three main points: health, effectiveness with spells and physical attacks. These characters also have four personal skills which make each unit stand out, while allowing them to be ranked according to five classifications: assassin, fighter, mage, support and the tank.

There is something for all tastes and ages. All of this was only the logistical part which is managed between matches with the help of a simple and pretty interface. This allows you to select your servers and find friends like on Battle.net. The choice of maps is for the moment rather limited as this is only a closed beta test. We therefore had no other choice besides the one map that was available.

The matches play out in typical fashion, pitting two sides against each other. The maps are littered with defensive turrets and powerful creatures that will provide you with valuable experience points. You should remember that the points earned by your character are only valid during the match.

Each time you start the game, all of the players will start together at level 1 as beginners, making things equal. This won’t prevent people from advancing, as their characters profile will help to earn experience points as fast as they can. You should therefore not mix up the progression of your characters profile. The first will last for a long time, but the second will start a fair way behind.

There are very few ways to win these points: either kill or help. You can increase your chances of winning by collecting gold which you can spend in the armoury. All of these artefacts have only one aim which is increasing your effectiveness. Some are only available to a certain character or class, but fortunately the game recommends the objects that are best adapted to your situation.

It is almost necessary to recover gold in the hope of winning, but once you have done this the process requires no refining. Everything has been done passively, with the only aim being to kill the enemy and nothing else. Your character can of course die. But rest assured, he will always come back after a few minutes.
