Section 8

Recently opened to everyone, the beta test for Section 8 has seen a number of improvements to the game play and graphics engine. It is now only 2 weeks away from its release and TimeGate Studios has decided it is time to allow the general public to discover their concept, which we were able to witness for you.

Section 8

TimeGate Studios were behind the FEAR add-on’s: FEAR Extraction Point and FEAR Perseus Mandate. The two releases were coldly received by the press and players alike, with a lot of criticism coming from the timid exploitation of the license. After having failed twice commercially, the company decided to take things into their own hands.

This is where Section 8 was born from, with it being an FPS game with a feel similar to Tribes. The beta contained only four levels and a single game mode. Two of the maps were also reduced versions which could only support up to sixteen players. The large versions will be able to support more double this, with thirty-six players being located on the one map.

These differences effectively double the number of maps. But this hasn’t been left just to chance, as the reduced maps have firstly been thought out for the Xbox 36 version. In the end we only have the two different maps. Everything depends on the server that will host the missions in the end though.

As a first appearance, Section 8 brings together everything that an FPS should have: military weapons. The game takes place in a far away future where humans have mastered spaceship technologies. You play the character of elite solider that has to complete high risk missions, which in summery means there is nothing new under the sun.

The game modes offered are similar to a conquest mode. Players will have to capture different strategic points and hold them for as long as possible, with this providing you with the points required to carry you to the final victory. It is also possible to earn other points by killing your opponents and their buildings.

Besides this overall objective you will also have annexed missions. These will be randomly inserted with the missions being the protection of a convoy, stealing information and even assassinating important characters. If you successfully complete this, then your team will earn valuable points, although if you fail then it will be your opponents that earn the points.
