Amazon Kindle DX : an electronic book

Since January 2010, the Amazon Kindle DX has been available internationally, with this electric book providing 16 tones of grey on a 9.7" screen. If you didn’t previously know that it was possible to take electronic books or magazines with you when on the move, then through this article you will find out everything there is to know! With 4GB of internal memory, you can store up to 3500 different files. There are different electronic books for sale in the proprietary AZW format on the Kindle Store, but in addition to this you can read PDF eBooks, play MP3 files and read personal documents (DOC, HTML, TXT, MOBI, PRC...). Through this review of the Amazon eReader, we will see what lead to this device being such a great success in the United States, and how it has been adapted to a European market. Has the successor to paper books finally arrived?

Amazon Kindle DX : an electronic book

A nice rotating screen without lighting adjustments!
The large screen auto-pivots between landscape and portrait mode, making it extremely nice on the eyes. The text isn’t quite as clear as a paper book, but it is nevertheless very similar, meaning that if you are not particularly paying attention then it really resembles a printed page! The first surprise is that that there is no button or menu presenting lighting or contrast settings. Consequently, you can’t read in the dark or other poorly lit areas.

The control button: everything is straight forward!
Besides the keyboard, there are very few buttons. The essentials are all down the right hand side, with a Home button allowing you to access your contents index page, Previous Page and Next Page buttons, a Menu button for the settings (Wireless On, Kindle Store, Search, Settings…), and a Back button to take you back a step. Instead of directional arrows, you find a cursor built on 5 functions (left, right, up, down, accept).

Connection options: headphone jack, mini USB and 3G modem

Just next to the horizontal lighting button, to the top, there is a stereo headphones jack (2,5mm). On the bottom you will find two stereo speakers, one to the far left and the other to the right with the mini USB charge plug. We can say that the audio quality is more then sufficient, providing good sound quality! To finish looking at these features, we will state that on the right hand side is the volume button. Finally, an internal 3G chip (EDGE, GPRS, and GSM) uses the Amazon Whispernet network for your connections to the Kindle Store and Internet browsing through the use of your unique user@kindle.com email address.
