Review Eset Smart Security 4.2: PC Security suite

About a year ago we reviewed the excellent Eset Smart Security 4 suite. Today, the updated version 4.2 is available, bringing with it some rather significant new features. The Eset suite has been released for Windows XP, Vista and Seven in both 32 and 64 bit versions, retouched with new functions while still keeping everything that was good about the previous releases. Containing an antivirus, antispyware, firewall with user profiles, an antispam integrated into the main email clients as well as complimentary tools (system updates, remote administration, graphical user interface), it seems like a good moment to (re)discover the Eset Smart Security 4.2 suite, which is one of the best products on the market for either home or professional use.

Don’t miss out on this update!
If you already have an Eset Smart Security 4.x license, then make sure you don’t miss out on this engine update to version 4.2! Among the various new features, we particularly appreciated the evolution of ThreatSense with its clear speed improvement when analysing HTTP streams. The integration of an antispam module for Thunderbird 3 and Opera 10 is also a very good point for users of these products. While the improvement to the graphical interface is minor, it nevertheless allows for firewall profile configurations which are a real innovation. The user is finally able to create custom profiles that are variable for specific uses. The other improvements are aimed at system administrators (centralised management of quarantined files, firewall rules assistant integrated into the ESET Remote Administrator 4 console and the installation of the Windows 7 automatic installation kit (AIK) 2.0).

And the other modules and tools?
You wont see any “visual” differences compared to the previous version, but you should know that the antivirus and its antispyware have been greatly improved, with the April 2010 Virus Bulletin (VB100) easily installing onto a Windows XP system. It is capable of detecting viruses on the fly, while generating not a single false positive during the real time analysis process. As for the firewall, this has been well adapted to both novice and advanced users. It automatically filters the traffic on a case by case basis with your personal rules and profiles. The other modules are almost unchanged and still function well, with Outlook 2010 soon be compatible with the antispam and other tools (logs, updates, scheduler, SysInspector, SysRescue, etc.).
In the end, no matter if you have an old security suite release that you wish to upgrade (version 3.x or 4), or if you are looking to purchase a very good security solution for your PC, we highly recommend the Eset Smart Security 4.2 suite.
