Office Web Apps: Microsoft’s online office suite

Microsoft Office Web Apps is Microsoft’s online office solution to compete with Google Documents! Since its release in June 2010 it is now possible to create, share and even print your Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote documents from your Windows Live storage space. Each user will have 25 GB of storage space available to them which can be used on Windows and Mac OS X systems from anywhere in the world through a simple web browser.

In terms of online office suites, a lot of users are already used to Google’s excellent Google Documents. Since June 2010, and following a few updates which were recently applied, users now have access to a competing system which is free for personal use: Microsoft Office Web Applications. Microsoft’s suite allows you to work online either by yourself or on shared documents (collaborative work) with adapted versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote which can be accessed from any web browser.

25 GB of free storage space!
To be able to take advantage of the Office Web Apps services you will have to have a Windows Live ID, which is a Hotmail (160 million users in the world), Skydrive, Messenger or Xbox LIVE account. This means that by quickly creating an account you will have free access to 25 GB of online storage space. You will then be able to view, create and synchronise your documents in the DOCX format for Word, XLSX for Excel, PPTX with PowerPoint and ONE for OneNote...
