RIM Blackberry 9780 Bold: Blackberry OS 6 Smartphone

Research in Motion has released a new Smartphone, the Blackberry 9780, which is part of the Bold family and uses the new Blackberry OS 6.

Blackberry Bold 9780Canadian manufacturer Research in Motion has extended their Bold range by announcing a new model, the Blackberry 9780 Bold, which benefits from the Blackberry OS 6 operating system which was unveiled in August with the Blackberry Torch.

This is a multipurpose Smartphone which keeps the traditional look of the brands handsets, with a landscape LCD screen, 480 x 360 pixel screen resolution, and a full keyboard on the front. It comes with 512 MB of Flash memory and 2 GB of memory available through the provided microSDHC memory card (this can be increased to up to 32 GB).

Its size is 109 x 60 x 14 mm, and it weighs 122g. The Blackberry Bold 9780 is WiFi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 and quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband UMTS/HSPA compatible. It should be noted that this is a UMA handset (Unlicensed Mobile Access), also delivered with an A-GPS module.


Blackberry OS 6
On the back we find a 5 mega pixel digital camera with Flash and the possibility of recording video. The Blackberry Bold 9780 of course benefits from the advances made in Blackberry OS 6, notably in terms of web browsing, with the WebKit engine, while it will also be possible to download additional applications via the Blackberry App World portal.

Its 1500 mAh batter provides 6 hours of talk time in GSM and UMTS and up to 22 days in standby. The Blackberry Bold 9780 will be available from November 2010 through numerous mobile carriers around the world, for an as yet unknown price.
