1E,
the global leader in IT efficiency software, today announced the release
of version 4.0 of Shopping,
its ‘app store’ for the enterprise. With version 4.0, users are now
empowered to schedule their own Windows
7 migration and are able to select which applications
to restore and install with their new Operating System.
Shopping is a fundamental component of 1E’s Efficient IT software
suite, which seeks to identify and reduce IT waste in hardware,
software, energy and time. With Shopping 4.0, the IT department stands
to save a significant amount of time tracking and installing
applications, while at the same time maintaining control of the number
of deployments and being able to black out certain days or hours if
needed.
With Shopping, the self-service automation of the request,
approval and delivery process means users can download the software and
services from the enterprise ‘app store’ within minutes, minimizing
software requests to the helpdesk and delivering savings of $40/ £24 on
average per request. Independent research has revealed that two thirds
of users in the United States and United Kingdom wait up to a week or
more to get the software they request through their IT help desk[i].
Shopping enables users to install software, operating systems and
services at a time when it suits them, without disrupting their daily
workload.
“Microsoft Windows 7 uptake in the business community has turned
into a surge and is today one of the highest profile and most
challenging IT projects for organizations”, says Sumir Karayi, CEO, 1E.
“We’re delighted to announce the release of version 4.0 of Shopping,
which brings enhanced flexibility to the product and cures two of the
major headaches in a Windows 7 migration project – finding the best time
to upgrade a user’s PC and ensuring that they retain the full suite of
software they previously had. Users benefit from an enriched ‘app store’
experience with an improved and user-friendly interface, while the IT
department is able to focus on delivering business value.”
1E has sold two million licences of Shopping worldwide. Customers
include UNUM,
Syngenta,
Dell,
Parker
Hannifin and Park
Hill Schools. Shopping integrates well with 1E's AppClarityTM,
resulting in a comprehensive solution set for managing software
distribution, software waste and license control.
