Sony Ericsson Pureness: Transparent Luxury

The Sony Ericsson Pureness is a luxury OVNI which brings with it never before seen technologies to allow its character to stand out while displaying its know-how. Both a mobile phone and luxury object to show off your social status, it contains some influence from one, and a lot from the other. The particularity of the Pureness is its transparent monochrome screen which is subtly lit from the sides by a faint light which keeps the lighting minimal.

The Sony Ericsson Pureness isn’t a Smartphone, with it therefore not being possible to install applications on it. It does have all of the ingredients of a middle of the range telephone though: agenda, email client, Web browser, music player…

The device is Bluetooth compatible and delivered with two headsets, one with a cable and the other Bluetooth, with both being in the form of earpieces. Since the telephone is HSPA compatible, the web pages should be displayed quickly thanks to the onboard Access NetFront browser.

The pages are automatically adapted to the screens width, displaying the contents in a column format. The screen display is done at a fine level and despite the small size of the characters, the text remains easily readable. The problem is that the screens visibility is very dependant on the lighting conditions, and it isn’t always easy to decrypt what is written unless you have your eyes glued closely to the screen (and even then it’s not obvious).

Despite this, a complex web site like GNT is quickly displayed and it is possible to read the latest news on the Pureness, although this won’t necessarily be enjoyable, and it certainly won’t have you constantly searching the web while mobile as some other handsets may.

It should also be noted that the handset heats up very quickly when reading the Internet pages via the 3G connection. This isn’t a problem in itself, but it can become rather annoying. For mobile email, the handset is capable of synchronising with Microsoft Exchange via ActiveSync.

The overall interface of the Pureness comes through as rather nice to use while being reactive and intuitive, with large icons that are easy to interpret and control via the directional cross and function buttons.

The music player does everything required of it, making the Pureness a deluxe music player that is MP3 and AAC compatible, with or without the cable attached. It displays the album covers, allows you to create playlists and comes with a TrackID function (song recognition from just a few notes).

It should be noted that as a luxury mobile, the handset comes with a 12 month package providing the users with a range of different services, a replacement mobile in the event it is lost or stolen and reservation service for restaurants and cultural events.
