Sony has announced that they will be withdrawing from the OLED television market due to a lack of interest from the general public for such products.
While a few years ago they were one of the pioneers in the OLED TV market, hoping that 2012 would be a good year along with the large South Korean manufacturers LG and Panasonic for the launch of their new models, Sony has now announced that they will be abandoning the market.
There is no point hoping to see knocked down OLED TV’s on the market though following the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year – as there won’t be any.
Sony has explained this decision as the general public doesn’t appear to be interested in such products, with the market failing to take off, providing the company with very little interest in being present in this market as there is little money to earn.
The Japanese giant has indicated though that they will continue researching in the OLED television field though, while not ruling out a return to the field if it does take off one day.
