Sound problem since updates two weeks ago

Originally I installed MDV2010.0, and kept updating it (usuallu once a
week).

Since the update two weeks ago, sound is behaving weird.

I switch my PC off every night, and sometimes the sound is OK when I start
the PC the next day. Other times the tune at starting up KDE is at at much
lower volume level, and the sound is quite distorted. This morning the KDE-
tune was OK, but two minutes later the level was again much lower.

KMix tells me always: level 77%. I tried alsamix and aumix, but no result.
When I put the volume level to 100%, of course it gets a bit louder, but
never to a normal level, and the distortion does not get any less.
And yes, pulse audio is off in MCC.

I cann't remember seeing anything about sound in this update, I always go
thru the list of proposed updates.

Can anyone give me a hint where to look for a solution.

This bit from the cooker mailing list might be pertinent to your
problem.

'Twas brillig, and Guilherme Moro at 15/02/11 01:04 did gyre and
gimble:

When this happens does "pasuspender echo" fix the
issues too? It sounds similar to the issues I have
and the above command causes PA to close
and reopen the device which appears to clear things
up for me.

FWIW, Colin is the Mandriva (and Mageia) guru on pulse audio.
