SSDs, trim, etc

I'm about to buy a new machine and plan to use an SSD instead of a
traditional HD. What is the current situation wrt various current/recent
distros like the Ubuntu family, Debian, Mint, etc, wrt to these? In
particular will these install and use an SSD optimally without my having to
do things like edit the fstab file to make sure 'trim' works?

Slainte,

Jim

Taking this up (and OT?), I too have been wondering about this. And
about procedures if one wants to make such a setup 1) multi-boot and 2)
most usefully configure a common /tmp directory, shared between distros
in use; and 3) the recommended procedures to update/remove/replace
any/all of the distros, including the first one installed.

Advice appreciated on any/all of these areas.

TIA

Alec
